I reported the problem to Microsoft in 2 places: I’ve also tried some extensions made by other people for other file types and they all have the same issue. This because Microsoft’s own sample application in their SDK called ‘RecipeThumbnailProvider’ has the exact same issue. I’ve done some more tests and it appears to be either a problem with Microsoft’s Software Development Kit (SDK) or a problem (bug) with the Windows Shell. I have also had reports of the same problem when the files are on a Microsoft OneDrive folder. You would need to copy the files over to a folder on your local hard disk for it to work.
